After a stellar performance at Grietfest this weekend, Moonchild Sanelly dropped her latest EP F-Boyz/Thirsty via Red Bull Studios today.
The EP features the title tracks “F-Boyz” and “Thirsty”, both of which joke about guys trying to get laid.
“F-Boyz” is a funky kwaito tune, with chord stabs reminiscent of Inner City's "Good Life" and a mid tempo-esque drum pattern. The lyrics tell a story of a guy who tried to impress Moonchild taking her to his lavish house, but it’s really just a demo house and he’s a real estate agent.
The groovy production provided by Maramza is almost nostalgic, tipping the hat to early kwaito but bringing the ‘90s genre straight into 2017.
“Thirsty” deals with similar issues, but with a much harder, dancefloor oriented approach. Produced by the gqom masters Rudeboyz, the track slams with a bass and drum driven beat, allowing Moonchild’s vocals to emphasize on the rhythm of the tune. A surefire dancefloor bomb.
