South Africa’s electronic music scene is filled with endless surprises. Being a multicultural country of countless unique artists from a wide array of different backgrounds, you can never assume too much without being caught off-guard.
Embracing the artistic expression to its fullest are Wet Dreams Recordings, a record label spearheaded by Big Space, and more recently by Rose Bonica. With a brazen approach to music production, they are bringing leftfield dance music to the country’s music environment, in small, obscure portions—much to the delight of the hungry electronic music fans in SA.
After releasing her single “Stoicism” on their Work Not Hype compilation earlier this year, Rose Bonica drops her debut EP titled Rosy Disposition today on Bandcamp and Soundcloud. And after the release of the video for “I Was Trying To Be Sincere” yesterday, this EP has become one of the most intriguing bodies of work to have come out of South Africa this year.
With a release party taking place tonight (Friday 8th September) at Yours Truly, the anticipation of the response to this forward thinking release is at a fever pitch. And with Markus Wormstorm and Jumping Back Slash as supporting acts for the launch, you can expect experimental electronic music of the highest order all night long.
