27-year-old artist Max Siedentopf has set up an art installation in the middle of the Namib Desert to play just one song; the ‘80s soft-rock classic, “Africa” by Toto.

With an MP3 player connected to six small, satellite speakers on separate stands, the installation is powered by solar batteries, in the hope that the song will play for all eternity in the sand dunes.

As the most streamed song of 2017, Siedentopf told the BBC: “[I] wanted to pay the song the ultimate homage and physically exhibit 'Africa' in Africa. Some [Namibians] love it and some say it's probably the worst sound installation ever. I think that's a great compliment."

Siedentopf states that most parts of the installation were chosen to be as durable as possible, but says he’s sure the harsh environment of the desert will devour the installation eventually.
